Avengers: Doomsday World Series Footage Puts Mjolnir Back in Cap's Hands
Thor wants his hammer back.

Avengers: Doomsday got a new look during Game 1 of the World Series last night. Marvel and MLB ran a short crossover spot during the Fox broadcast, and MLB posted it on YouTube soon after (MLB). The biggest moment is Steve Rogers holding Mjolnir again, and Thor does not look thrilled about it.
What does the World Series footage show?
The spot mixes a few new Doomsday scenes with clips of MLB players reacting to them. Here's what it shows (SlashFilm):
- Thor (Chris Hemsworth) reacts to Steve Rogers (Chris Evans) swinging Mjolnir
- Ant-Man (Paul Rudd) calls Steve "Cap" right in front of Sam Wilson (Anthony Mackie), the current Captain America, then quickly corrects himself
- Reed Richards (Pedro Pascal), Ben Grimm (Ebon Moss-Bachrach) and Johnny Storm (Joseph Quinn) play baseball until Reed looks up at the sky, surprised by something
Thor already shouted "I knew it!" when Steve lifted the hammer in Endgame, so this could be a brand new moment, though it's also possible Thor is just tired of sharing (fair). Either way, the movie hasn't said how Steve gets back into the fight.
How did fans react?
Not everyone loved it, and SlashFilm said there was "very little brand new stuff to chew on." ComicBook.com rounded up fans who felt let down after all the World Series hype, with plenty of posts asking what the trailer even was (ComicBook.com). A lot of the complaints were about the ballplayer cameos, which took up time some fans wanted spent on the movie.
When does Avengers: Doomsday come out?
Avengers: Doomsday opens in theaters on December 18, 2026, with Joe and Anthony Russo directing and Robert Downey Jr. playing Victor von Doom. The cast also includes Chris Evans, Chris Hemsworth, Paul Rudd, Anthony Mackie and the new Fantastic Four. This spot follows the earlier teasers and July's full trailer. We covered the World Series announcement and the rest of the rollout here.
My read is that this was a fun ad more than a real trailer. Marvel probably isn't going to burn its best shots on a baseball break, so the big reveals are likely saved for a final trailer closer to December. With less than two months to go, that trailer could land any week now (hopefully with fewer pitchers in it).
