Ratchet & Clank's Mobile Shooter Got Unplugged Before Its Big Launch

Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble won't get its big worldwide launch after all. Developer Oh BiBi announced on November 6 that it is ending development and support for the free-to-play mobile shooter, which it built in partnership with Insomniac Games and PlayStation (PlayStation LifeStyle).

The game never fully released. It was only available as a soft launch in a handful of countries, even though global pre-registration had opened on iOS and Android in July.

What was Ratchet & Clank: Ranger Rumble?

Ranger Rumble was a team-based PvP arena shooter for phones, first announced in November 2025. Oh BiBi CEO Stanislas Dewavrin wrote on the PlayStation Blog that it would launch with 12 heroes and six modes, including team battles, PvE waves, a battle royale-style mode and a football-inspired mode where scoring goals gave your team extra firepower (PlayStation Blog).

The roster mixed classic characters with new Lombaxes, robots and aliens. Pre-registration also promised milestone rewards for everyone. The biggest was a Clank Suit skin for Widget. Oh BiBi says eligible players will still get their pre-registration rewards in the in-game inbox (PlayStation LifeStyle).

When does Ranger Rumble shut down?

The final content update arrived on November 6. The game leaves the App Store and Google Play on November 21, 2026, so new players can't download it after that date (PlayStation LifeStyle).

Anyone who already has it can keep playing until the servers close on May 1, 2027. In-app purchases are already turned off, but players can still spend the currency they have, and the Super Pass is now free. The team thanked players "for all your support" (GamingBible).

Where was Ranger Rumble available?

The soft launch covered regions like the UK, Canada, the Nordic countries, France, Indonesia and the Philippines (GamingBible). It never officially launched in the US, so most fans never got a chance to try it.

Does this affect other Ratchet & Clank games?

No. The shutdown only affects Ranger Rumble, and it doesn't change any other Ratchet & Clank games or PlayStation services (PlayStation LifeStyle).

My read is that most longtime fans won't be heartbroken. When the game was revealed, fans were not impressed (Hitmarker), because many of them wanted a new console adventure, and a mobile hero shooter was never going to fill that gap. The real question is when Ratchet and Clank get their next proper outing, since Rift Apart came out back in 2021. (Clank, please, just one more dimension-hopping road trip.)
