Dune: Part Three's Final Trailer Shows Chani Turning Against Paul

Warner Bros. released the final trailer for Dune: Part Three today, and it's the darkest look yet at the end of Denis Villeneuve's trilogy. The movie opens in theaters and IMAX on December 18, and the trailer passed 2 million views on YouTube in its first four hours (Warner Bros.).

The biggest surprise is Chani. Zendaya's character is shown openly opposing Paul, fighting him and seemingly joining the plot against him (Den of Geek).

What does the final trailer show?

Part Three adapts Frank Herbert's Dune Messiah, and the trailer finally shows the conspiracy at the center of that book. Robert Pattinson's Scytale, a shapeshifting Face Dancer, meets with Charlotte Rampling's Reverend Mother Mohiam. Florence Pugh's Princess Irulan gets confronted by Paul, and Jason Momoa is back as Hayt, a clone of Duncan Idaho built to get close to the Atreides family (Den of Geek).

It also gives us the first look at Paul and Chani's twins, Leto II and Ghanima. Nakoa-Wolf Momoa, Jason Momoa's son, plays Leto II in his first movie role, and Ida Brooke plays Ghanima (The Direct). Anya Taylor-Joy also returns as Paul's sister Alia.

Is Chani really turning on Paul?

In the book, Chani stays loyal to Paul from start to finish. The trailer clearly wants us to think that's changed, which fits how Part Two ended with Chani walking away from Paul's holy war.

My read is that Villeneuve is playing with the fact that Scytale can copy anyone's face. The Chani fighting Paul might be exactly who she looks like, or it might be the biggest trick in the movie (book readers are already arguing about it).

When does Dune: Part Three come out?

Dune: Part Three hits theaters and IMAX on December 18, the same day as Avengers: Doomsday. Timothée Chalamet, Zendaya, Rebecca Ferguson, Javier Bardem and Josh Brolin round out the main cast, along with the newcomers above (The Direct). Tickets are already on sale.

If you want to catch up before December, these two are the best way in. As an Amazon Associate, Church of Nerds earns from qualifying purchases.
