Star Wars Battlefront 3 Rumor Says DICE and Bungie Are Circling
Hope, round 47.

This one is a RUMOR, so let's start there. A gossip column says Lucasfilm wants a new Star Wars Battlefront game and is shopping for a studio. EA's DICE is the front-runner, with Sony-owned Bungie as the option if DICE passes. Jeff Grubb read it out on Game Mess Mornings on October 19. A day later, VGC laid out the details. According to the column, nobody has fully stepped up yet.
The column's own wording has two major studios "circling the project like a couple of snowspeeders," which is about as Star Wars as a rumor gets. Grubb's framing was more careful, saying the game "isn't officially in development just yet," per ComicBook. None of Lucasfilm, Disney, EA, DICE, Sony or Bungie has commented publicly.
The source is a little unusual, even by video game rumor standards. The claim comes from a "Quartermann" rumor column in a final bonus issue of Electronic Gaming Monthly, which went out to Kickstarter backers of a retrospective book. VGC points out that the column was written a while ago and only published now, and that some of its older rumors have since come true.
There's already a second, even shakier claim circulating. Bulkhead CEO Joe Brammer replied to the rumor on X. He wrote that "DICE and from what I've heard Respawn are working on Battlefront 3," which is secondhand at best (The Game Post).

Star Wars Battlefront II had a brutal launch in 2017, mostly because of its loot boxes. At the time, it was claimed that Disney privately scolded EA over it. The game then spent years being repaired, rebalanced and expanded. In 2025 it hit its highest-ever concurrent player count on Steam. Former developer Mats Helge Holm has also said ex-Battlefront developers would love to reunite. (That's about as close to a fan petition as game developers get.)
Which studio should make Battlefront 3?
I'd argue DICE has earned the first shot. The team behind Battlefront II stuck with it long enough to turn a disaster into a game people still play. That kind of second chance rarely comes around. Bungie would bring some of the most satisfying gunplay in the business. Kotaku makes a fair case, though, that putting Bungie on Battlefront might waste what the studio does best.
The bigger picture for Star Wars games is complicated right now. On October 12, Bloomberg reported that Epic Games delayed an unannounced shooter starring Marvel and Star Wars characters. The project is tied to Disney's $1.5 billion investment in Epic, and the delay comes as the company pushes staff toward AI-generated code and art (Game Informer). On the more encouraging side, Star Wars: Galactic Racer launched October 6 and debuted at No. 2 on the UK physical sales chart. Fuse Games' CEO told VGC that sales so far feel healthy (Bespin Bulletin).
Until someone official says a word about Battlefront 3, file this under "fun to argue about in the comments."
